The best way to prepare for the learner licence test is by working your way through Drive’s Road Code.
Our Road Code contains chapter tests at the end of each section. These are like mini practice tests and a great way to check you’re on the right track.
Once you complete all the chapter tests, you get access to our official practice test. If you’re consistently getting every answer correct in the practice test, that’s a good sign you’re ready for the real thing.
You’ll probably need to go into a driver licencing agent twice to get your learner licence – once to do some paperwork and book a time for the actual test, and again on the day of the test itself. It’s possible you may be able to sit the test right after you do the paperwork but at most centres you’ll have to book.
You don’t need to book for your first visit. You can stop in any time – although it pays to go in when the agent might be less busy, like mid-morning or mid-afternoon.
The first thing you need to do is complete a driver licence application form. You can download the application form and fill it out in advance, or get a copy from the driver licensing agent when you go in.

On the day of the learner licence test, you’ll want to plan to arrive at the testing agent early. If you're late, you might not be able to sit the test that day. Try to avoid that stress by getting there at least 10 minutes before your test is due to start.
When you arrive, let the testing agent know you’re there for your test. They’ll tell you what to do next.
