It may have been a long time since you looked at the road rules. If you’re going to coach, brush up on your knowledge of the New Zealand road code and think about any bad habits you may have when driving.
Check-up drives with your restricted licence holder
Following distances should be 2 seconds in good conditions or 4 seconds in wet or icy conditions, when other vehicles are following too close, and in heavy traffic. Lane use: not staying entirely within the lane or not using the correct lane.
Long-distance driving
Following distance: check they keep to a 2-second following distance in normal conditions. Or a 4-second following distance in wet or icy conditions. Curves: check they drive through curves correctly. They should brake before a curve and use the correct lines in and out of the curve.
