It’s been a lot of stress, hard work and effort, but finally the day has arrived – you’ve got your full licence!
You’re probably thinking you can throw away your road code for good now, and delete your coaches’ contact details from your phone, right?
Wrong.
The key to being a great driver is never allowing yourself to stop learning. Even though you’ve got your full licence, chances are there’s plenty of driving scenarios that you’re yet to experience.
So while it’s true that you don’t have any more tests to study for, you might want to hold off on deleting your Drive account for a little bit longer yet. You never know, it might just come in handy.
Remember that the same alcohol limits apply to fully-licenced drivers as restricted drivers.
If you’re under 20, you still have a zero alcohol limit. If you’re 20 or older, your legal alcohol limit remains at 250 micrograms per litre of breath, or 50 milligrams per 100 millilitres of blood.
The Road Code has plenty of information on how alcohol and drugs affect your driving ability, if you’re interested in learning more.
You should also be aware that a full licence isn’t a free pass to drive any type of vehicle you like. Certain types of vehicles are restricted to drivers with a special types of licence or licence endorsements.
For example, to ride a motorcycle or drive a large truck you need separate licences (with their own learner, restricted and full stages). You need an F endorsement on your licence to drive a forklift, a P endorsement to drive a passenger service vehicle (like a taxi or tourist van) and a D endorsement to drive a vehicle that is carrying dangerous goods.
Depending on your career, these licences or endorsements might prove valuable further down the line.
