Arrive early – at least 10 minutes before your test is due to start. Let staff know you’ve come for the test.
If you’re late, you might have to rebook for another day.
How the test works
You sit the learner licence theory test on a computer at a driver licensing agent. The test has 35 multi-choice questions. There’s often a picture or diagram with the question, then possible answers below. Click on the answer you think is correct.
You need to get at least 32 questions right out of 35 to pass. You’re given 30 minutes – you don’t need to rush. Each time you answer a question, it will show if you got the answer right or wrong, so you’ll know how you’re going.
The questions are about things you’ve learned from the road code. Everyone gets a different set of 35 questions taken from a total pool of about 200.
Your test results
If you get 32 or more questions correct, the testing agent will give you a temporary (paper) learner licence. This will be your licence until the real thing arrives in the mail.
If you get less than 32, you’ll have to book to take the test again.
Your application fee includes a second chance at the test if you need it. You may be able to try again on the same day if the agent has a timeslot free. However, if you fail twice on the same day, you’ll need to wait 10 working days before you can sit the test again. If you don’t pass on the second attempt, each additional test will cost $54.60 so it's best to do some more study with Drive before your second attempt.
