Speed choice

Test tips

  • You need to stay within the speed limit at all times, including temporary speed limits (eg at road works)
  • When traffic and road conditions are good you should drive at, or just below, the speed limit
  • Slow down before you get to the sign for a lower speed limit. Only speed up after you have passed the sign for a higher speed limit.

Speed errors

If you go more than 4km/h over the speed limit, you will get a speed error:

  • Immediate Fail Error: 10 km/h or more over the speed limit at all, or between 5–9 km/h over the limit for 5 seconds or longer
  • Critical Error: 5–9 km/h over the speed limit for less than 5 seconds. If you get more than one Critical Error in the first part of the test, or more than two Critical Errors overall you will fail the test.
