When you first open Drive Go, you’ll need to sign up or use an existing Drive account to log in. Drive Go is integrated with the Drive website, so if you had an account on the website, you can use your same login details on the app and see your continued progress.
Drive Go can be used by both learners and coaches. While there is no coach specific view in Drive Go, coaches may wish to sign up so they can have their own access to the skills, learning points and videos.
If both the learner and coach download the app:
The home screen displays overall progress through Drive Go.
Drive Go is set out in ranks: bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond and champion. Learners must complete each rank to move on to the next.
Each rank is achieved by completing the required skills and a number of drives. Some drives have to be completed at night. Your phone knows when it’s night, so you don’t need to do anything extra to record a night drive. To find out what needs to be completed for each rank, tap on the steering wheel icons on the road map.
The skills screen displays all the skills to learn. These are set out in 8 chapters. Use the top menu to navigate left or right to see all the chapters. The skills to be completed for each chapter are displayed underneath. Tap into a skill to view key information and video demonstrations.
If you’re just starting out, you should try to progress through the skills in order.
If you’ve already learnt some skills, you can mark them as ‘learned before’. You can do this from the skills screen by tapping the 3 dots in the top right-hand corner of each skill.
Creating a drive plan:
The Go! screen is another way to create and view a drive plan. Tap on the skills you want to practise and you’ll see them in a list with a recommended drive time.
Going for a drive:
Reviewing your drive:
Once you’ve reviewed your drive, you’ll get a drive summary including the time and distance travelled, and the percentage of your drive that was within the speed limit. Based on your drive, you’ll also receive recommendations for the next skills to practice.
When you’re next connected to wi-fi, your drive will sync and update your dashboard.
The driving test screen has 5 practice test drives you can do. These give you a chance to practise tasks and skills that will be in the restricted licence test.
Completing practice tests:
The profile screen is where you can find your dashboard showing overall progress such as number of skills completed, achievements earned, and total time and distance travelled.
You must not use Drive Go while driving.
Review each skill at home first or while parked safely. To review your driving plan or the key teaching points during your drive, you should pull over to a safe place and turn the car off. Then when you’re ready, put the phone away and start again. If you’re tracking your drive, you can pause it every time you pull over.
One of the features of Drive Go is GPS tracking. Drive Go uses the GPS sensors in your mobile device to calculate drive time, distance and speed. This enables you to get feedback, monitor your progress through the ranks and to earn achievements.
Unless required by law, we will not share this information with any other person, and in particular, your speed data will not be shared with any enforcement agency or be used for enforcement purposes.
Drive Go does not store any location data.
You don’t have to track drives to use Drive Go. You can still build a drive plan and view the skill information without using the tracking feature. You just won’t be able to progress through the ranks or review your drives in the app.
If you don’t have the app you can still access Drive Go content online. View each skill to access the key learning points, diagrams and videos. You can also test your road rule knowledge with a quick quiz.
